IELTS Speaking

Band 7 is not a vocabulary problem.

Fluency and Coherence is a quarter of your Speaking band, and it is the part an examiner hears before you have finished your first answer — how often you hesitate, where your pauses fall, whether you circle back. It is also the only one of the four you can measure at home. Talk for two minutes and see all three numbers.
Three free drills every day — no card needed. The full course covers Speaking, Reading, Listening and Writing.

IELTS is a registered trademark of the British Council, IDP : IELTS Australia, and Cambridge University Press & Assessment. How you Talk is an independent practice tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by any of them. We measure how you deliver an answer — pace, hesitations, pauses and filler words — and give you practice against it. We do not predict, estimate or guarantee an official IELTS band score, and no practice result here is an IELTS result.

What are you aiming for?

The number you need is set by the country or the university, not by the exam — and it changes what "good enough" means in every drill. Tell us once and the targets follow you around.

Why we're a class apart

Everyone gives you a number.
We give you the fix — instantly, unlimited, on every exam.

The prep market is crowded. But the one thing that actually moves your band — a real-time scoring engine that tells you where you went wrong and lets you try again and again — nobody else has it, because it is too slow or too expensive for them to run, so we built our own.

Why the others can't just copy this

Scoring speech the honest way costs money — a human examiner takes a day and charges for it, and cloud AI billed per attempt becomes a subscription you ration. Our engine is built on foundation models trained on exam data from millions of students, and we run it ourselves — no examiner to pay, no per-attempt bill — so an attempt costs us close to nothing. That is why we can give you instant, unlimited, real-criteria scoring, and why a metered competitor cannot match us on cost, speed and precision.

And what we don't do: we don't invent a predicted band (a number you can't act on), we don't use leaked past papers (we write our own), and we don't offer live 1-on-1 tutoring. We do one thing completely: get your Speaking ready.

What each country actually asks for

Most people sitting this exam are not doing it for fun — they need a number for a visa or a university. The number is usually lower than people think, and the number that gets you invited is usually higher.

Canada
Express Entry CLB 7 is the Federal Skilled Worker minimum — IELTS 6.0 in each skill. But CLB 9 (Listening 8.0, Reading/Writing/Speaking 7.0) is worth about 124 language points against 68 at CLB 7, and 2026 draws have been going out well above CRS 490. The minimum gets you into the pool; CLB 9 is what gets you out of it. IRCC ↗
Australia
Skilled visas 189 / 190 / 491 Competent English (IELTS 6.0 in each) is the floor and scores zero points. Proficient (7.0) is 10 points and Superior (8.0) is 20 — and in a points test, twenty points is usually the difference between being invited and waiting. Home Affairs ↗
United Kingdom
Skilled Worker B1 on the CEFR across all four skills — a far lower bar than Canada or Australia, and one many candidates over-prepare for. Student routes are usually B2. Check the specific route: they differ. GOV.UK ↗
Universities
Undergraduate and postgraduate Typically 6.0–6.5 overall for undergraduate and 6.5–7.0 for postgraduate, very often with a minimum in each skill. That per-skill minimum is what catches people: a 7.5 overall with 5.5 in Writing fails an offer requiring 6.0 in each.
United States
University admissions Accepted at over 3,400 US institutions — boarding schools, associate, undergraduate, graduate, professional and law programmes — including Ivy League universities and professional medical boards. TOEFL is still the more familiar name there, but IELTS is not a niche choice: 99% of American four-year colleges enrolling 1,000+ international students accept it. IELTS USA ↗

Checked August 2026, and these change. Every figure above is a summary with a link to the authority that sets it — governments revise points tests, band floors and programme rules without much notice, and a page like this one is exactly where an out-of-date number does damage. Confirm on the official site before you book anything, and never on the strength of a conversion chart alone.

What it costs

The exam itself is ₹19,000, and a retake is ₹19,000 again. That is the only comparison worth making.
